Like every passionate movie fan, I have a large DVD collection. These are my favourite videos which I fear to lose! Of course, today it’s not a problem to find any digital content online, but why pay twice? I found a very easy solution how to back up all my DVD videos and make them ready for mobiles and gadgets. I use Freemake Video Converter to rip DVDs for my iPhone 4S and BlackBerry Playbook. So I’d like to tell you how to do this.
First, you need to add a DVD movie into the program: insert a DVD disc, launch Freemake, and hit “+DVD” button to add the whole VIDEO_TS folder. Usually a DVD contains several titles (the movie itself, trailers, ads), tick only those you’d like to rip. In the video line select audio track (language) and subtitles (if necessary). You can also embed subtitles from the Internet in SRT, ASS, SSA formats.
The next step is to choose the output profile. You may rip DVD to a specific format like AVI, MP4, MKV, WMV, MPG, FLV, 3GP, or make it compatible with your portable device.
Here is the list of ready profiles available at the video converter:
- iPad 1, 2, 3 (video to iPad how-to);
- iPod Touch 1-5G, iPod Classic, iPod Nano;
- iPhone 1, 3G, 3S, 4, 4S;
- Apple TV;
- Sony PSP, PS3;
- Nokia N900, N800, E90, E6, N97, 5800, 5230;
- Samsung Corby, Captivate, Droid Charge, Duos, Epic 3G;
- BlackBerry Torch, Storm, Curve, Bold, Style, Playbook.
As for Android phones (since there’s a great variety of them), you should choose a preset on the basis of your gadget display resolution: 1280×800, 1024×600, 854×480, 800×480, 640×480, 480×320, 320×240. You may easily find it with Google (e.g. “HTC Sensation XE display resolution”).
If you didn’t find your gadget in the above list, don’t worry: Freemake Video Converter lets create personalized profiles with almost any output parameters. Look here how to create a custom preset to fit videos to your device model.
Since it’s quite challenging to find right video specs for a certain gadget model, I assembled the most popular video profiles and helpful resources for you.
Note: one and the same device may support more than one video format/codec, so video parameters may vary from site to site.
